Hello! My name is Nicole.
I’m the founder/owner of Northern Star Doula.
I began my journey towards birth work in the fall of 2014, after the birth of my youngest son. My own birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding experiences lead me to the realization that in today’s society, there is a very apparent and unfortunate lack of support. Women are not receiving continuity of care. After more than a year of self-study, I completed a formal birth doula training program through CAPPA, (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association.) At the advice of my instructor, I continued on by taking the postpartum doula training, and began supporting families immediately.
I’m constantly expanding my knowledge through literature, continuing education courses and workshops as well as learning from those who have come before me. I am a professional member of Evidence Based Birth, Birth Monopoly & VBAC FACTS. I’m knowledgeable in the use of acupressure for birth, trained and certified in advanced VBAC support, a pelvic biomechanics enthusiast, and skilled in the art of effective communication and strategy in the birth room. I’m committed, dedicated, and steadfast. I’m a believer in your rights to bodily autonomy, personal freedom, and self-agency.
After attending several hypno-births, I became a believer in peaceful birthing through the use of hypnosis for childbirth, and then trained and registered as a Hypno-Doula through Hypnobabies. I continue to recommend Hypnobirth for all of the benefits it has for relaxation and comfort. Through my role as a traditional birth doula, I mostly use trust, relaxation, focus, breathing, movement, and intuition. A bag of tricks is great, and I certainly have one, but I use my voice, energy, heart, and hands the most.
I’m a firm believer in intuitive, holistic support and know the lasting, positive impact it can have on an entire family. I’m what some would consider pretty “crunchy” but I’m also a huge nerd and love science. Not the kind of blindly trusted science that we are told to believe just because “science”…. The good stuff. I especially love when science actually agrees with my crunchy/naturalistic methods. And if you do enough digging, you might find that most of it does!
I also mentor newer doulas to continue to pass along the knowledge, skill, and experience that was passed down to me. I firmly believe that my mentors (Britt M. and Crystal S.) were an essential part of my journey early on and still — are the reason I am who I am today. They are a beloved aspect of my practice and families ADORE them.
In the fall of 2018, I began my academic studies in the art and science of midwifery. It was the next logical step for me, as I had found myself in a place where I gravitated toward the wisdom and safety of the midwives model of care, and naturally began providing a level of support that felt above and beyond the Doula’s realm, diving deeply into health promotion and complication prevention. Over the past couple of years, I completed academic studies through The National College of Midwifery, and I have apprenticed and gained experience practicing basic clinical skills with a traditional homebirth midwife, as well as through traveling to learn under 7 different certified professional midwives attending births in homes and three busy birth centers. The student journey was exciting and challenging, and I recently passed the national board exam in April 2025 and earned the CPM credential, Certified Professional Midwife.
Aside from birth & postpartum work, you’re likely to find me spending time with my husband Matt, my 23, 20, and 11-year-old kids, (yeah, I still cannot believe I have adult children!), and my dogs Reba (Heeler mix) and Nipsey (Plott Hound/Beagle), traveling, studying all things midwifery, nutrition, lab analysis, and herbalism.
Hi! I’m Harmony –– Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Birth Doula, and hold a M.S.Ed.
Originally from New York, I now call South Jersey home, where I’m raising my three children. My journey into motherhood is what led me to birth work. All three of my babies made early, unexpected entrances—arriving at 33, 34, and 35 weeks. I’ve been through infertility, successful fertility treatments, two “geriatric” pregnancies, and two NICU stays. Each of these experiences shaped who I am as a mother and as a Birth Worker.
My breastfeeding journey didn’t begin the way I imagined. I hadn’t even had a chance to open a breastfeeding book before my first baby arrived. Instead, I learned through experience—pumping, feeding through NG tubes, bottle-feeding, and eventually nursing at the breast when my babies were ready. When we finally came home, I had to figure out how to wean from the pump and transition to nursing without much guidance. I found support in La Leche League meetings and new parent groups—safe spaces where I could ask questions, process my experience, and observe real parents breastfeeding babies of all ages. Those groups helped me build confidence, follow my instincts, and realize how vital community and support are for new parents.
After the birth of my second child, I became a Certified Lactation Counselor through the Healthy Children Project, Inc. In 2020—during the pandemic and while pregnant with my third baby—I completed the coursework and passed the exam postpartum. Studying for a major exam while sleep-deprived and healing was no easy task, but it reminded me of how capable and determined parents are—and how powerful support can be.
In the spring of 2022, I attended a Lamaze-accredited seminar and became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator the following summer. I completed my Birth Doula certification with Birth Arts International in and continue to grow through ongoing training and education within the professional birth and perinatal community. My background as an elementary school teacher for 15 years helps me create evidence-based, interactive, and engaging classes that prepare families for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Whether through my childbirth classes or doula support, my goal is to empower families to make informed choices based on current research—and to trust themselves.
I was honored to support a dear friend during her birth—helping her understand her options, craft her birth plan, and hold space for her during labor. That experience showed me that this is exactly where I’m meant to be. I believe in providing emotional, physical and practical support to families, meeting them where they are, and helping them navigate the twists and turns of birth and early parenting. I love talking about birth, breastfeeding, and babies, and I’m passionate about helping families feel seen, supported, and strong. I hope I can be a part of your journey! Reach out HERE!
Testimonials:
“I was determined to have an unmedicated birth, but knew it was going to be a challenge delivering in a hospital with an OB practice. Luckily, I met with Harmony, and immediately felt at ease. Not only was she kind and down to earth, but she was full of knowledge. Once we began working with each other, she helped my husband and I prepare for labor with tons of informational resources, labor positions, and pain management tips. I'm happy to share that with her help and support, I was able to give birth to our beautiful daughter, completely unmedicated. I would recommend Harmony to anyone looking for doula support, especially if having a natural, unmedicated birth is important to you. Thank you for everything!” – Nicole
“Harmony is a one of a kind doula! I met her at the mom and baby expo this year and we instantly connected. Her bright smile, bedside manner, calming nature, and generosity are what made me choose her. Giving birth is such a sacred time in one’s life and she taught me all the tips and tricks to make sure I was as comfortable (as I could be) as possible during this process. I am now 6 weeks postpartum with a baby girl and I can’t wait to utilize her services during my next birth.” – Briana
Hi, I’m Chris! — Certified Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula & Lactation Counselor.
I'm a proud mom of four amazing grown kids who have all officially flown the nest! While they were growing up, our home was known as a safe haven—a place where their friends always knew they could stop by, day or night, whether they needed a couch to crash on or simply a listening ear. No questions asked.
Now, with our nest officially empty, my husband of 29 years and I have found ourselves on a new kind of adventure in Glassboro, NJ—this time with chickens, three cats, and four goats keeping us company! We’re embracing this season of life as joyful, curious empty nesters.
For over two decades, I served as the Director of Children and Family Ministries at a local church, walking alongside hundreds of families through some of their most meaningful moments. My faith continues to be a constant source of grounding and joy in everything I do. Before that, I was a professional sign language interpreter, and I’m passionate about continuing to support the Deaf community—especially when it comes to ensuring informed consent and accessible care during labor and birth.
At my core, I’ve always been a caregiver. A nurturer. Whether it be through ministry, motherhood, or just being a steady presence for those around me, I’ve naturally taken on the role of support—much like a doula does for a laboring parent. It’s more than a calling; it’s simply who I am. Caring for others is something I'm truly passionate about. Welcoming a new life into the world is an incredible journey, and no one should have to walk that path alone. I'd be honored to support you and your family during this special time. How can I be there for you? Fill out the contact form HERE, and let’s meet!

"Chris was my birth doula, and let me say I would not have had the confidence to do an unmedicated birth as a first time mom without her support, knowledge, and guidance. Chris is EXTREMELY passionate about what she does and it is evident upon any interaction with her. She provided me with many tools to use not only while in labor, but also for pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum. She made herself available to answer any questions I had, even post birth. She is tremendously supportive to any and all decisions you as a mom-to-be make. She will not try to persuade you into something else. She makes it very clear it is YOUR birth and she is there to fully support you! If you are considering using Chris as a doula…please don’t think twice!! She is an incredible person..the sweetest woman you will ever meet and extremely knowledgeable! Thank you Chris!!!!” – Jacqueline
"Chris was amazing to work with and a huge asset to our birth experience! She was helpful in putting together a birth plan that felt right to us, and she was a great support when labor ended up taking us in an unexpected direction. Chris had worked in this hospital before, and her familiarity with the staff brought comfort and normalcy to the experience. My husband and I really benefited from having Chris as a constant when the medical staff were in and out. Above all, her enthusiasm for childbirth made her an awesome member of our team! Highly recommend.” – Hannah
