Doula Mentorship Program
Are you a passionate new doula local to the Philly/South Jersey/Northern Delaware area but can’t seem to get your doula practice going the way you have envisioned you would? Have you finished your doula training but having anxiety about getting started with things like creating a client agreement, building your website and getting your name out there? Are you having difficulty attracting clients/families that would benefit from your support? Don’t worry. I’ve been where you are! I needed a mentor early in my doula career (two, actually) and it benefited me greatly. So much so, that I was able to build a busy, thriving business with some simple focused direction, and a the opportunity to gain clients through a mentorship program.
Some of you may already know me, but for those that don’t… Hi, my name is Nicole and I am the founder and owner of Northern Star Doula, a company which provides birth and postpartum + newborn care services in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey areas and beyond. I also mentor newer doulas by offering insight, support, and guidance as they navigate their journey to becoming knowledgable, skilled, and independent birth and postpartum support workers in their community.
The Northern Star Doula Mentorship Program includes:
Options for one-time, monthly, 3 month or 6 month mentorship packages
One-on-one virtual mentorship zoom calls to go over the basics of getting your business off the ground and beginning to support families.
Assessment of your current birth support knowledge, experience, status, and goals.
Support in navigating the certification process (if applicable.)
Identification of practices that will support your businesses growth and reach, such as your website, business listings, social media, and other public facing profiles.
Attracting your ideal client, scheduling consultations, and getting HIRED!
Understanding how to set your fees based on your VALUE.
How to conduct prenatal and postpartum visits.
Labor/Birth support practices and roles.
Advocacy in the birth room. (Often, this one isn’t addressed in your training)
The importance of your local resource list.
Navigating difficult “business” situations.
Phone call/text support during births (when available).
Managing your client agreements and finances.
Building your back-up network.
Individual birth debriefing and monthly group birth share.
Client Referral Program*
Apprentice-style experience through working with Northern Star Doula attending births or serving families in the postpartum period for adjusted fees that reflect the mentorship.
The Northern Star Doula Mentorship Program is dedicated to supporting new (or growth-minded) doulas so that they can become confident, skilled, and trusted birth + postpartum support workers in their community.
The Northern Star Doula Mentorship Program is in the process of morphing into something great. Right now we have several options to choose from, if you are looking for general individual and/or group mentorship. Additionally, if you are local, a small fee is required for each referral you receive while you are working under the Northern Star Doula Mentorship Program.* To better serve the mentee doulas, individual coaching space is limited to two mentees per month at any given time.
